Just for a Little

Leaving to Arizona today to celebrate New Years Eve with the best friend....

Be back in 2009 (aka Friday)!

HAPPPPPY NEW YEARS!

Playing around with: Gold Sequins

Polyvore totally depresses me. Want to know why? Because it's makes me believe that I own all these absolutely fabulous pieces, when really it's all just an imaginary closet. So, completely swooned over the colored alligator clutches, Miu Miu dresses, beaded cuffs, and Nicholas Kirkwood platforms, I realized that if I just accept the fact that I'll never own any of the stuff in "My Items", then soon enough I'll be able to move on with life.

Anyway, I decided to pick some sort of theme to play around with and came up with "shimmery gold sequins". When I think of gold sequins, I visualize a platinum blonde girl with acrylics, luscious curls (and not in a very enticing way), and orange skin. So given the fact that such embellishments can be considered awfully tacky, I decided to start messing around with gold sequined pieces, trying to make them look somewhat modern, and well, somewhat ME.

Non-fashion related..

As I mentioned in an earlier "q & a" post, I was hoping to mark my body with three more tattoos before 2008 ended. Soooo as a Christmas gift, my mom scheduled an appointment and I got them done today! So excited, I really love them!

It's the title of my all-time favorite book as well as two of my passions since forever.

When I picked up these gloves at Zara, I kind of mulled over the idea of pairing them with some sort of strapless dress but then I figured I might look like Cinderella or something so instead I decided a delicate, wooly cardigan would accompany the princess gloves more appropriately.

So my best friend gave me this book called Essential Foreign Chat-up Lines and I've been trying to learn the ones in French but I sound like a complete idiot.

Here's one:

Tu es tellement chaude que tu fais fondre l'elastique de mon calecon.

AA shoot

I was approached by Shawn from American Apparel last week to do some sort of campaign which is basically an advertisement banner for Chictopia where I'd be wearing AA pieces as well as some of their vintage stuff for California Select.
I was super excited when I arrived at the factory today and met Mae (who was wearing the new AA disco pants which totally made me want a pair). We headed up to a perfectly lit studio where I was presented with a cluttered rack of vintage- they seriously had everything from pale lace dresses to striped tweed trousers to beautifully structured coats... clearly I was in heaven. We started putting together looks, mixing metallic with color, body-con with volume, fishnets with bold tights, etc. I was even lucky enough to try on the various tie dye washed leggings and I must admit I felt a little bit special, yet a little bit sad because I couldn't take the samples home with me.
Anyway, before I keep baffling on about all the crazy fun I had, I thought I'd show you a few snapshots of some of the looks:

My Grown-Up Xmas List

Please exuse me for neglecting the blog these past few days, like I mentioned in the last post, my finals have officially made me a crazy lady. I've had to create over forty sketches, design a frilly skirt (I might wear it soon- as soon as it has been given a grade of course), find the definition to words I had no idea existed, create a simple tee shirt (which by the way is now totally shredded because my frustrations caused me to jam the damn interlock machine), and sew a pair of trousers that look like they'd fit Lil Wayne or something.

Anyway, a few readers have asked me to put together a Christmas list so here it is! (Mama please ask me about sizes- remember when you gave me those red cowboy boots the size of a chalupa?)

I've been so caught up in studying for finals and/or working on final projects (like sewing together an unusually complicated skirt), but I'll be done next week so expect posting to become a bit more frequent.

Oh and I was totally flattered today when a stripper asked me where I got my shoes. Grandmas and strippers always love my shoes, it's kind of funny.

Slicked Hair

As I arose this morning and looked outside my window, the beautiful season of winter was officially confirmed. I've never been happier to see foggy skies (some of you may remember me ranting about how much I was over the hot summer weather), but I bet you tomorrow will be a sunny and bright day. California is so unpredictable. Maybe I should do a rain dance so that it can rain all next week and then I'll have an exuse to wear my forest green suede rain coat!

Oh and notice the slicked back hair- a result of a bad hair day. Who knew super short hair could be so stupid. I was running late this morning, so I decided to use Rene Furterer hair paste to slick it down. I was actually pleased with the results because I kind of felt a little like Edie. Yay Edie!!

Ps. I'll try to answer the rest of the questions soon, pinky promise!

I'm so into the Christmas spirit that I think I'm starting to annoy my family.

New Shoes

Although they are very scandalous, I am determined to make them work. I'm thinking of pairing my stripper boots with pretty feminine dresses and cigarette jeans.

Puff the Magic Dragon

Clearly I have begun to embrace some pretty bold hoop-ish earrings. I think I might have to begin a mildly arduous search for a pair of vintage jeweled chandeliers.

Also, so excited about this new beige puffed sleeve blazer- can't believe it's from H&M. Paired it with my sequins leggings, which by the way are surprisingly comfortable considering they're made out of partially jutting sequins.

Wearing a sheer white pocket tee, black Express sequins leggings, H&M puffed sleeved blazer, and Bebe platforms.

Lace Trousers

Purchased these trousers when I picked up those fringed pants, but I've never wore them because to be honest, they sort of intimidate me with their decorative black lace panels, exaggerated flared hem, and high waist. I'm wearing them today though, because I always wear cheeky pieces on holidays. Last Thanksgiving it was a vintage gray silk floor length dress paired with a cropped wool blazer. Yes I felt overdressed, but quite frankly I didn't really care.

Valentino Variations

I promise I'll quit with all these coffee table books... just this last one and I'll try to keep my absurd fascination to a minimum.

I checked out Valentino today at the library and as soon as I started skimming through the pretty pages, I instantly fell in love. I hadn't really ever acknowledged Valentino's work, mostly because I'm so overly obsessed with Yves Saint Laurent (my all-time favorite designer), so I never really bothered to research the other designers that have been around for just as long.

As I was blithely admiring the nearly magical designs in this book, I realized Valentino had a thing for creating themes and variations... line, surface detail, and volume. All of his collections seem to represent a single chapter with unique emotions, ideas, and motifs. The looks change every chapter, but somehow, this glamourous woman behind all these extravagantly designed pieces, remains the same. A story with the same inspiration throughout...
